As part of the PHAI Southern Region programme of CPD in passivhaus building knowledge, members have kindly agreed to open their building projects for site visits as a learning resource for builders, architects, students, systems installers and potential clients.

The first such building project has commenced on site in Glasheen Road in Cork City. It is an EnerPHit (certified passivhaus refurbishment) and extension of a detached house.

Construction/demolition has started as of August 2016. The first site visit will take place on Thursday 15th (note date change from original notification) September at 16.00 (ends 16.45) and will look at the foundations, perimeter/plinth thermal bridge details. We should have steel in place for the support of the existing works and can look at how thermal bridge free design is addressed there. Drawings, models, etc will be available for discussion. If you are interested you can follow the progress of the build, to completion from there on in, including the all-critical testing for air-tightness, 1 air-change per hour that must be achieved for Passive House certification.

Prospective participants must apply in advance using the form attached to this page.

Each site visit costs €10/€5 students (funds go to the Southern Region Chapter of PHAI),

This event if free to members of the Passive House Association of Ireland (membership €150), so please join rather than pay as you go, to avail of all the other benefits of membership.

Places are limited to 5 students max, and 10 in total, first come first served. If there is substantial interest we may host a second group, but each will be limited for safety and ease of discussion. All participants must bring their own hard hats, steel toe safety boots and high-vis vests.

Those who attend can book future visits, to avoid missing the really juicy stuff around airtightness etc!

Please use the Twitter and Facebook buttons on the bottom of this page to share this as widely as you can so we can let everyone who wants to understand Passive House  know about this wonderful opportunity to see it happen first hand!
